"Shoebox, like much of the rest of the record, is a sort of reminder to myself to hold onto the optimism and innocence I had when I was younger, especially when it comes to relationships with women. The naive wisdom we all have at that age is so important to remember as we get older and inevitably less idealistic and more jaded. I think most of us had it all figured out when we were 11 or 13 or 12..."
Having already made a name for himself in the art scene, Long Island native PJ Loughran headed out to the open mic landscape of New York City hoping to hone his craft. In fact, "craftsman" is probably the best word to describe this talented illustrator/artist/singer/songwriter/guitarist/sax player. He does it all. In 2001, after his illustration career was firmly in place (boasting clients such as GQ, Sports Illustrated and The New York Times), PJ thought it was time to take the music scene by storm. His energetic performances, approachable presence and acrobatic "scat" vocals have helped him quickly develop a loyal following, which continues to grow steadily day by day, show by show. Every song is pretty personal," says PJ describing his new album Grenadine. "I tend to write when I'm trying to sort stuff out. I'm a bit 'heart-on-my-sleeve,' probably to a fault at times. But, either way, it's all very honest - no bullshit anywhere on the record." Visit PJ's Web Site at www.pjloughran.com
